The material for this 1-Day Course includes, but is not limited to:

  • Hazards confronting responders
  • Health effects of ammonia
  • Procedures for handling emergency responses defensively
  • How to plan/prepare for emergencies and identify risks
  • How to decontaminate responders and neutralize/clean up ammonia spills
  • Respiratory protection training including self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA’s) and respirators
  • Respirator fit-testing (be sure to bring the respirator you will be using to be fit-tested)
  • Proper leak isolation techniques
  • Pressure relief valve 3 way valve operation discussions
  • Ammonia leak detection options

This course covers the OSHA requirements for:

  • Refresher training of emergency response personnel who will respond to leaks or spills of chemicals for the purpose of stopping the leak or spill and neutralizing it.
  • Training of first responder operations level personnel who will respond defensively to leaks for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property, or the environment from the effects of the release.
