This process facility manufactures and distributes products for restaurant chains in the United States. This project was to address the replacement of an aging central control system that was becoming a challenge to maintain and find replacement parts for obsolete components. Project challenges included upgrading each individual microprocessor on each of their nine Frick compressors and performing upgrades on the PLC with no disruptions to production. The existing central controller could not communicate with the new Quantum HD compressor panels and the new central control system could not communicate with the existing compressor microprocessor panels, without expensive modifications that would be abandoned once the Quantum HD microprocessor panels were installed. This posed a problem because at some point in the project the compressors would not be able to communicate with the central controller.
